bollywood

Bollywood is the commonly-used name for the Hindi film industry. Even if you have never actually seen an Indian film, you already have an approximate idea of what they look like: massive production including songs and dances in unexpected places, simplistic storylines, heavy melodrama, etc.

India's national cinema is one of the country's most important industries because of the money it moves.

The name "Bollywood" is a compound word derived from Bombay (the former name for Mumbai), and hollywood, the center of the American film industry. But, contrary to Hollywood, Bollywood does not exist as a physical place.

Indian dates from 1913 and the silent film Raja Harishchandra, the first-ever Indian film. Its producer, Dadasaheb Phalke, was Indian cinema’s first magnate, and supervised the production of twenty-three films between 1913-1918.

Around 1947 the industry went through significant changes, during this time the the modern Indian film was born. At that time  films started to be Inspired by social and political changes, as well as cinematic movements in both the US and Europe, the 1960s saw the birth of India’s New Wave, founded by directors such as Ray, Mrinal Senbolly, and Ritwik Ghatak.

Nowadays Bollywood is known as the Masala film, thanks to Manmohan Desai, one of the more successful Bollywood directors of the 1970s who is considered by many to be the father of this Masala film. He defended his posture like this: “I want people to forget their misery. I want to take them into a dream world where there is no poverty, where there are no beggars, where fate is kind and god is busy looking after his flock.”

Indians are unique!!

The official language of India is Hindi. Hindi´s name comes from the Persian word Hind that means "Land of the Indus river", and now Hindi means "Language of the land of the Indus river".

This language belongs to the family of Aryan languages which are the dominant language family of the Indian subcontinent.1276116458_20

Hindi has at least 13 different dialects. This language was chosen by the government, this was because it has connection with India´s history before it´s independence. Before this, there wasn´t an official language but the Indians a part from Hindi also used to speak British english, but not all of them. The reason why Hindi was chosen wasn´t because of the majority of people that used to spoke it, but because of the facts mentioned before.

The dialect of Hindi is based in Khariboli, which is the prestige dialect of Hindustani. Hindi
alphabet has 35 consonants and 11 vowels.2e9240e7bd918992e02a6e9f3d806652

Nowadays Hindi is written in Devanagari script which is made by two words, "Deva" meaning "God" and "Nagari" meaning "of urban origin".

It´s quite hard learning Hindi although some words are similar to the english ones, but a good fact about Hindi is that it´s written from left to right.AlexisPazoumian-india

Indian people are amazing!

How is it possible that when we think about India, the first thing that comes into our mind is the most colorful site on the world?bollywood

When we try to imagine Indian people, they all look really kind and smiling, probably dancing while celebrating some religious special date although they're living in one of the poorest countries in the whole world. At least that is the image we get after watching Bollywood films...

india real

It's true what it's said: "India is a developing country". But it's also true most of the population lives in precarious conditions in spite of being defined as hard workers and highly skilled people. And, also very familiar people that take care of their relatives, strangers in need and worry about the future of their country. Of course, there are different opinions about them but we must be careful to avoid confusing stereotypes with reality.

At the present time, Indian culture is more about how it was hundreds of years ago than what we really think. In general, they haven't changed a lot. We still imagine them in the same way we did years ago.

We should try to look more like them: always seeing the good things in life and protecting our "brothers". It would be a great idea just in case that thing called "karma" actually exists. Don't you agree with me then when I say they are amazing people?indiasmile
